Via East Midlands (Via) has formally signed a three-year strategic partnership agreement with Nottingham Trent University (NTU), unlocking new opportunities for students and strengthening career pathways in construction.
Under the agreement, Via, Nottinghamshire County Council’s highway partner, and Arc Partnership, a joint venture between Nottinghamshire County Council and SCAPE, will work closely with NTU to create unique learning experiences and job prospects for students, helping to develop local skills across the region.
This collaboration builds on the success of a previous three-year partnership between Arc Partnership and NTU, which achieved national award recognition at the Construction News Workforce Awards.
Now, with Via joining the initiative, the organisations have pledged to deliver an expanded programme of graduate placements, applied research projects, mentoring, and guest lectures from 2026.
Dan Maher, Managing Director for both Via and Arc Partnership, said: “With one million construction workers needed by 2032, its essential we focus on developing skills and creating meaningful job prospects for young people, particularly here in Nottinghamshire. In a short three years, we have made a positive impact from providing 80 construction site visits, tailored guest lectures for 100 students and graduate placements.
“I couldn’t be prouder to have Via East Midlands pledge its commitment alongside Arc Partnership. This will enable us to share expertise, pool resources, and help nurture the next generation of construction professionals even further.”
A ceremony took place to mark the official signing of the Strategic Partner Agreement. Representatives from Via, Arc Partnership and Nottingham Trent University were joined by Nottinghamshire County Cllrs, James Walker-Gurley, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Asset Management and Bert Bingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment.
Dr Andrew Knight, Executive Dean at Nottingham Trent University, said: “Building on our successful partnership with Arc, this expanded collaboration with Via represents a powerful opportunity to connect education, industry, and community for the benefit of the region.”
