Delivering Safer Highways
Via’s Safer Highways team are committed to reducing accidents on Nottinghamshire’s road and improve safety for all highway users.
Through a range of road safety education and cycle training for people of all ages, through to the analysis of all injury accidents and the implementation of schemes to improve problem areas, our team of experts make the roads safer in the County and beyond.
Our service also includes Nottinghamshire’s School Crossing Patrols, who safely cross young people at the County’s schools over 10,000 times per day.
With programmes for schools, business and individuals, please get in touch to find out more about what we can offer you.
We understand that Road Safety is a life-long skill, so we offer training for all types of road users at all ages.
Road Safety Education
We deliver education related to journeys in engaging, interactive sessions. Our education in schools is delivered from year seven through to sixth-form, considering attitudes and behaviour as well as the change in the modes of transport as the child matures into adulthood.
We also provide driver assessment and education to businesses, understanding the key issues that their drivers face and policy awareness to create tailored programmes.
With an ageing population striving to retain independence, we also offer a ‘Drive On’ education scheme to prolong the time that a person is able to drive safely by increasing their knowledge of the issues which can impact their driving.

Bikeability and Cycle Training
We offer a range of cycle training including the nationally-recognised Bikeability scheme.
Courses are also available for adults learning to ride, as well as bike maintenance courses across Nottinghamshire.
We provide training to over 10,000 people per year, from learning to ride with balance bikes, through to full on-road cycling with complex junctions for young road users.

School Crossing Patrols
Our School Crossing Patrols provide an excellent service, ensuring that over 10,000 young people cross the road safely to school every day.
Our patrols or ‘lollipop people’ operate at up to 140 sites in Nottinghamshire.
We’re always looking to recruit new patrols onto our team, so if you’re looking for a part-time community-focussed role, please get in touch.

Accident Data Analysis and Improvements
Our team of highly-skilled engineers log and analyse all accidents on the highway in Nottinghamshire which result in injury.
They look for patterns in the contributing factors and develop schemes and interventions to reduce the number of casualties on our roads.
We are able to provide accident statistics on request.
Our team can also carry out stage one, two and three road safety audits for any works on the highway.
