Course Overview:

This course aims to provide those working within the Highway electrical sector the necessary knowledge required for the understanding and the use of equipment for both Safety at Street works and Road works. It also aims to cover Moving / Minor Works / Short duration and Single vehicle works for signing and guarding as well as an awareness of other forms of signing and guarding

In addition it will provide the knowledge to satisfy the training requirements of NHSS8 (in line with NHSS 12D) and does not confer NHSS 12D registration on the learner.

Course Content:

  • Understand the legal requirements, Risk assessments and terminology
  • Understand PPE, appropriate documentation Vehicle signs and cones
  • Site definitions – zones
  • Clearance and moving of minor works including footway
  • Various methods of appropriate traffic control
  • Roundabouts and Traffic Islands
  • Traffic signals and Cycle ways
  • Application exercises and summative theory assessments

Course Objectives:

  • Risk assessment and legal requirements
  • Identify the different codes of practice involved in traffic management
  • Be knowledgeable of the main requirements to national standards of signing and guarding road works
  • Identify the necessary equipment to effectively carry out temporary traffic management
  • State the requirements for the signing and guarding of short duration moving and minor works
  • Understand the various methods of positive traffic control
  • Be aware of the correct actions for the installation, maintaining and removing of positive traffic control systems

Additional Information:

This full day course is delivered in line with the requirements of the Highways Electrical Registration Scheme (HERS).

All Learners will be required to fill in the Pre-requisite form before attending the course

The Learner is required to bring with them, all required and appropriate PPE that is fit for purpose without defect for the task (please enquire if unsure)
