Client Challenges
William Davis Homes is one of the most respected housing developers in the Midlands.
In 2019, planning permission was granted by Rushcliffe Borough Council, for William Davis Homes to build a major new housing estate as part of a greenfield development in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire.
Permission was granted by planners, on the condition that William Davis Homes, would make significant road and junction improvements, to provide access to the new 180 houses both by car and by foot.
Our Solution
Via completed the major works on the A60, Loughborough Road on behalf of William Davis Homes. Significant upfront investigative work was required pre-construction. The work included installation of a Toucan pedestrian crossing point, widening footways, upgrading the street lighting, building the road access for the new housing estate, improving the surface water drainage and widening the approaches onto the existing Loughborough Road / Mere Way roundabout. As part of the highway approvals process Road Safety Audits were also undertaken by Via.
Elements of work included earthworks, drainage, kerbing, ducting, street lighting, surfacing, traffic signals, road markings and landscaping.
During the 6-month construction period, the works required extensive traffic management planning to ensure smooth traffic flow was always maintained on the highway network. Via designed and installed multi-way signals to control traffic at the adjacent busy roundabout and avoid traffic disruptions to the A60, a major route into Nottingham.
Client Benefits
By partnering with Via, William Davis Homes has successfully completed the construction of the road improvements within agreed timelines.

During the project, the team at Via adapted quickly to unforeseen external factors that jeopardised the programme, this flexibility allowed for other areas of the works to continue and therefore no costly delays were incurred for the client.
As approved suppliers for both Nottinghamshire County Council and National Highways, Via understands the requirements and governance processes to streamline delivery.
