Client Challenges
Via Consultancy (Environmental Management and Design) were briefed by Arc Partnership to provide external works drawings and a landscape scheme for a classroom extension at College House, Chilwell.
Our Solution
Larger mature trees were retained where possible but several trees had to be removed, along with an existing wildlife area, to accommodate the new classroom.
Native trees were planted elsewhere on the school site and a new wildlife area was created by the school. This included a habitat pile using logs from the felled trees and a bug hotel, as well as a pond and native tree planting.
Timber sleepers were used to build a retaining wall and a ramp to accommodate changes in levels adjacent to the new classroom. The existing security fencing was incorporated into the design and re-erected along the retaining wall.
Block paving and slabs were used in the courtyard area and areas of planting were created in the Foundation/Keystage 1 areas to attract wildlife and to provide colourful all year round interest.
Contractor / Subcontractor
The main contractor was G F Tomlinson and the landscape sub contractor was Ulyett Landscapes Ltd.
