Course Overview:
The winter Maintenance Re-Qualification includes Unit 680 – Winter Service Health & Safety and the practical assessment included in Unit 613 Prepare and Operate Winter Service Vehicles and Equipment over 7500kg LGV for operatives.
Course Content:
Includes the one day Health and Safety unit which is mandatory and then a one day refresher which covers:
- Health and safety at work
- Inspecting and checking vehicles for safety and roadworthiness
- Protective clothing
- Weather forecasting technology
- Inspecting ploughs
- Explanation of spreader controls
- Effects of salt on the environment
- Salt mining, storage, handling and suitability
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, delegates will refresh the relevant information and skills in order to enable them to operate the Winter Maintenance machinery safely and effectively.
Additional Information:
This is a mix of classroom-based and outside practical training. Trainers will take delegates out for a walk around a gritter and plough and undertake a practical assessment.

Successful delegates will be eligible to obtain a NEREO operative or supervisor’s qualification registration card following completion of the mandatory Health and Safety unit and subsequent appropriate operator or supervisor unit.
This qualification is valid for a 5 year period, after which the course will need to be completed again.
