Last updated 23 Jul, 2018

Via East Midlands is delighted to announce the extension of a contract with Tarmac that will see the companies continue to collaborate on the delivery of highway services within Nottinghamshire.

The new extension of the Term Service Contract builds on an existing successful partnership between the two organisations, stretching back to 2013 when an initial deal was signed between Tarmac and Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC).

Via, formed in July 2016, deliver highways services on behalf of NCC and the contract with Tarmac novated from NCC to Via in April 2017.

The contract, awarded in April 2013, was for an initial period of five years with options to extend to a maximum of 10 years. The latest extension sees the contract run until 2022, with an annual value of approximately £15m.

Works to be delivered in collaboration with Via under the contract include maintenance of highways and footpaths, as well as gully cleansing and road marking maintenance.

Collaborative working has been crucial to the success of the contract to date, delivering projects such as the £5m DfT A38 and A617 Mansfield and Ashfield Regeneration Route (MARR) improvement scheme in just 6 months from the awarding of funding to completion of works.

A further acknowledgement of the strong working relationship came last week as Tarmac won the Considerate Constructors Scheme National Ultra Site Award for Collaboration for their work with Via and NCC.

On the signing of the extension, Via Managing Director Doug Coutts said:
“I’m pleased that we’ve been able to extend this contract with Tarmac.
“Our working relationship is very much a partnership, with staff from the two organisations being co-located at our Bilsthorpe depot, which allows us to ensure seamless delivery of highways services together.

“The recent successes of the works on the MARR and the award show how well the companies work together and we look forward to this over the extended period of the contract”.

Paul Fleetham, Managing Director of Tarmac’s Contracting business added: “We’re delighted to continue our successful collaborative partnership with Via and NCC. As a national business founded on strong local roots in regions like Nottinghamshire, we’re well placed to understand local issues and deliver on customer requirements to keep the road network running smoothly and efficiently.

“The recent Ultra Site Award also highlights our dedication to continually driving higher standards across the construction supply chain, building the image of our industry and offering a courteous, high quality service for local people.”
