Via Contribute to Successful Day of Action in Newark
Via East Midlands staff combined with other groups and volunteers in Newark to spend a day improving the local community.
The day of action, organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council, took place on Thursday 30th August and was about helping to make two areas of Newark – Yorke Drive and Winthorpe Road – cleaner, safer and greener.
Via were part of a large team that got involved with the day, which also included participation from district council staff and members, Nottinghamshire County Council, Newark and Sherwood Homes, Nottinghamshire Police, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service, Veolia, the Fernwood Foxes Football Club, McDonald’s and KFC.
Our team spent the day working on a number of different areas including clearing drains and gullies, repairing and cleaning street lights and also repairing potholes on some of the footways in the area.
Doug Coutts, Managing Director for Via East Midlands, which manages highways services on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council said:
"It is always great to see what can be achieved when communities come together and we were pleased to be able to be part of the day.
"Our teams made repairs to street lights and filled potholes in the area. We also cleaned a number of gullies to help with drainage on the highway."
